How can I tell if my dryer vent is clogged and dangerous?
In practice, it’s easy to spot: the dryer gets abnormally hot, clothes come out still damp after a full cycle, and sometimes there’s a burning smell. When it takes two or three cycles to dry a normal load, the vent is almost always clogged with lint.
Is it true that dryer vents cause fires?
Unfortunately, yes. We’ve seen ducts completely filled with compacted lint, ready to catch fire. Lint is extremely flammable. In several emergency calls we’ve responded to, customers were just a few uses away from a major fire.
Why isn't cleaning the dryer filter enough?
